The Polish winger stood out with Rennes in Ligue 1 and, after courting interest from Everton, has made a rather risky move to Hull City.

Everton will be hoping Ademola Lookman continues his flying start in the top flight because, with Gerard Deulofeu departing for AC Milan, The Toffees are suffering from something of a shortage in the wide areas.

In hindsight, they could regret letting Hull City swoop for Polish international Kamil Grosicki, especially after Ouest France reported in the summer that Everton were closing in on a £6.6 million deal.

The 28-year-old moves to the KCom Stadium with the unenviable task of compensating for the loss of talisman Robert Snodgrass as Hull pursue an improbable survival bid but, judging by his form in the early half of the season for Ligue 1 side Rennes, he is more than capable of making an immediate impact in the Premier League.

Netting four times in 13 appearences from a nominally wide position, including a glorious sweeping volley against St Etienne, Grosicki offers a genuine goal threat from wide areas. Something an Everton side still over reliant on one-man wrecking ball Romelu Lukaku, have lacked in recent seasons.

In 3,266 Premier League minutes, Kevin Mirallas (below), the crocked Yannick Bolasie, the out-of-favour Aaron Lennon, as well as Lookman and Deulofeu, scored only five times between them, an average of one every 653 minutes.

Though, as demonstrated by an impressive European Championships, the nimble, hard-working and intuitive Grosicki possesses the ability to drift into goalscoring positions, an attribute the wingers at Ronald Koeman’s disposal, with the expectation of Mirallas, appear to lack.

Doubts remain about his ability to stand out in a tougher, quicker league but the next six months of his Hull career will determine whether he can be definitively classed as ‘one that got away’.
