Paul Lambert handed Callum Robinson his debut at Aston Villa and, four years on, they could be reunited at Wolves.

Preston North End are determined to resist any deadline day swoops for in-form forward Callum Robinson, the Daily Mail reports, but Wolverhampton Wanderers could complete a rather formidable strikeforce if they were to step up their pursuit.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough campaign in 2016/17, with his six goals in 25 Championship appearances helping Simon Grayson’s side into the top half of the Championship.

His direct dribbling and power in possession has made him one of the most threatening all-round strikers around in recent months so it’s understandable that Preston, as reported by the Daily Mail, are unwilling to listen to offers below £4 million after rejecting an approaching from Fulham earlier in the window.

However, to Wolves’ owner Guo Guangchang, the richest man in the Midlands with a fortune of almost £5 billion according to the Birmingham Mail, another £4 million is unlikely to leave much of a dent in his bank balance even after the club smashed their transfer record to sign Helder Costa on a permanent deal.

And the prospect of the former Benfica B star’s dazzling runs combined with Robinson’s fearless bursts is enough to make even the most watertight of backlines omit the odd bead of sweat. The in-demand forward, after all, has outscored each and every Wolves striker this season.

Furthermore, boss Paul Lambert handed Robinson his professional debut for Aston Villa in 2013 and, clearly, there is a great deal of admiration between player and manager.

“He’s helped me massively,” Robinson said in quotes reported by Sky Sports in 2014, when both were at Villa Park. “He’s got faith in me so I’ve just got to make sure I perform and give it back to him.”

Three years on, that belief could finally be repaid.
