Former Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez has lauded Aaron Ramsdale’s performances with the north London club this season after joining in the summer.
Speaking to Ben Foster on Amazon Prime’s official YouTube channel, the Argentine international was full of praise for the Arsenal goalkeeper based on his form this season, with Ramsdale staking a claim as the best shot-stopper in the Premier League this campaign.
The 23-year-old was a reported £30m signing from Sheffield United this summer, yet despite concerns from fans and pundits, Ramsdale has developed into one of the best keepers in the league and is now in contention for the Golden Glove award.
Ramsdale’s success this season has been a huge shock to both Arsenal fans and neutrals, yet the gamble to sign the England international has proven to be a blinder by Mikel Arteta, who could have a starting keeper for years to come.
Indeed, it isn’t just fans who have been surprised, with Martinez praising Ramsdale for his achievements this season with Arsenal, especially given the path the youngster has taken to get to the top with the Gunners.
The Aston Villa star said: “The fact that I know what he’s been through, he played in League One and League Two, Championship, he’s been relegated in the Premier League, so he’s been through a lot. And now he’s actually winning every game, fighting for Champions League… he deserves it.”
Martinez praise of Arsenal star Ramsdale proves Arteta was right

When Arsenal sold Martinez just days after another incredible performance in the Community Shield, supporters were worried the club had made a terrible decision as the keeper went on to become a superstar with Villa. Yet with Ramsdale, Arteta has been proven right.
The youngster has asserted himself as the keeper for Arsenal’s present and future, and at just 23, Ramsdale could go on to lead between the sticks for years to come for both the Gunners and for the England national team.
