According to Sport Bild, Donyell Malen is Borussia Dortmund’s top target to replace Jadon Sancho – news that Arsenal and Liverpool may not love.

It’s stated that Sancho is now close to joining Manchester United and a deal is close to being done, possibly even within the next few days.

Dortmund will then move for a replacement, and it’s stated that Malen is the favourite in a deal thought to be worth around €25million (£21.5million).

Embarrassment for Arsenal over Malen

Arsenal had Malen on their books from 2015 to 2017 having signed him from Ajax, but he never made a first-team appearance for the club.

The Athletic note that Arsenal sold him for £750,000, but some Dutch sources claim PSV actually signed him for just £200,000 – a ridiculously low price.

Now worth more than £20million, Malen’s rise – which saw him smash 27 goals in all competitions last season – is an embarrassment for Arsenal, and you can add him to the list of players that have really flourished since being cast aside by the Gunners.

Malen move a blow for Liverpool

Sky Germany reported only last week that Liverpool are planning to hold talks with PSV over a deal to bring Malen to Anfield.

Liverpool may be in the market for another forward this summer, with the pace and movement of Malen surely appealing to Jurgen Klopp and co.

It now looks like Klopp’s former club are moving for Malen, boosted by the incoming cash from selling Sancho – and Liverpool will have to go back to the drawing board.
