Days after Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United, the controversy from that game still rumbles on.
Should the Anthony Gordon goal have stood for Newcastle United? Was the ball out of play? Did Joelinton push Gabriel? Was there an offside? It could go on and on. And it is still going on and on.
But one man who was seething after the game was Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who in his post-match interview and press conference, let rip at the powers that be, as posted by Sky Sports.
Mikel Arteta stated that he felt ‘sick’ and how the decision to award the goal was a ‘disgrace’ and ‘embarrassing’.
Well, those comments were rehashed by journalist Fabrizio Romano on Instagram and the post was liked by Newcastle United defender Sven Botman.
The Netherlands international was absent for the weekend fixture through injury, with captain Jamaal Lascelles and Fabian Schar starting at the heart of defence and keeping Arsenal at bay.
The below post was liked by Sven Botman, perhaps he agrees or perhaps he just sees the funny side to Mikel Arteta’s comments and is on the wind-up.
Massive three points for Newcastle
Three points are three points. Those in Newcastle colours won’t care one jot because there were many talking points during the game, well before the goal went in.
Kai Havertz’s dangerous tackle on Sean Longstaff resulted in him picking up a yellow card, with even Ian Wright admitting that he should have been sent off.
But so was Bruno Guimaraes lucky to stay on the field for his elbow on Jorginho – once again, Ian Wright felt that the Newcastle midfielder should have been given his marching orders.
All in all, it was a game to forget for the officials, with Arsenal still not letting the matter go after they publicly backed their manager’s comments yesterday with a statement, but it was met with a mixed response, including criticism from the likes of Alan Shearer and Michael Owen.
