Bournemouth manager Jonathan Woodgate thinks he has a side more than capable of matching Steven Gerrard’s Rangers after reports emerged suggesting the Old Firm could join a British Super League.

With Bournemouth pushing for promotion back to England’s top-flight, the Cherries boss wasn’t happy at suggestions that Rangers and Celtic could be parachuted in to a new British set up.

The former England defender wasn’t totally opposed to Rangers and Celtic heading south of the border to join a British Super League, he feels they should have to start in the Championship – and claimed he wasn’t so sure whether either half of the Old Firm would beat his side.

“They should have to start in the Championship and climb their way up,” Woodgate told talkSPORT.

“We’ve got a really good team at Bournemouth. Would Rangers and Celtic beat us? I’m not so sure.

“It’s boiling down to money again. The Super League was boiling down to money. Why does money have to run the game?

“Why does it have to keep on boiling down to television rights? It’s all about money, money, money.

“If they come into the league, they’ve got to start off somewhere, but it can’t be at the top.”
