According to The Daily Star, Arsenal will ‘ramp up efforts’ to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid after completing the signing of Willian.

Arsenal announced the signing of Willian on a free transfer on Friday, with the Brazil international – who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger – having left Chelsea this summer.

The Daily Star has claimed that the Gunners’ technical director Edu will now accelerate the club’s efforts to sign defensive midfielder Partey from Atletico.

The report has added that the North London club are also in the market for a new defender.

Good signing for Arsenal?

Partey is a very good defensive midfielder, and the Ghana international would make Arsenal a more combative team in the middle of the park.

Described as “very strong” and “tough” by Arsenal legend Martin Keown on Stadium Astro on July 7, 2020 (click here to read more), the Atletico star would enhance the Gunners’ chances of finishing in the top four of the Premier League table next season.

According to WhoScored, Partey scored three goals in 35 La Liga matches, and scored one goal and provided one assist in eight Champions League games for Atletico in 2019-20.

Meanwhile, Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater has congratulated Willian on his move to Arsenal on Instagram.

Drinkwater responded: “Congrats big guy”
