- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
Newcastle United have been dealt another transfer blow ahead of the summer window slamming shut on Friday, August 30.
Eddie Howe is desperately trying to add more steel to the team’s backline and further enhance the forward areas.
Even though Newcastle United finished seventh last term, they still missed out on European football after eighth-placed Manchester United beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final.
Nicolas Gonzalez turns down Newcastle United
Now, HITC understands that Juventus are pushing to complete the signing of Nicolas Gonzalez – who has turned down a contract offer from Newcastle.
The 26-year-old was part of the Argentina team that won the Copa America this summer, including playing 54 minutes during the final win over Colombia.

Fiorentina star Gonzalez has emerged as Juve’s top winger target and talks are progressing with the Florence outfit looking for a €40million deal.
Europa League winners Atalanta also spoke with Fiorentina, as have Newcastle, and both made approaches, but HITC is told that Gonzalez has made it clear he only wants to move to Turin.
Juventus are now locked in talks and have also offered Filip Kostic as part of the deal.
However, HITC is told that with Kostic’s departure – whether it be Fiorentina or elsewhere – and the likely departure of Federico Chiesa, Juve will want at least two new wingers in.

Raheem Sterling’s future
So, even with Gonazlez, Juventus still want another winger and HITC is told that they have spoken with Raheem Sterling’s representatives. They do hold an interest in a possible loan deal for the Chelsea winger.
Sterling released a statement asking for clarity over his Chelsea omission on the opening day of the new Premier League season – new boss Enzo Maresca was beaten at home by Manchester City.
The 29-year-old has been told by Chelsea he is not part of their long-term plans and is now considering leaving the club after being told he is unlikely to be part of their Premier League squad – Ally McCoist can’t see Newcastle wanting to sign Sterling.
Juve sources also confirm that they retain an interest in Jadon Sancho – should a deal a loan deal for him emerge as a possibility before the window closes.
