Sean Dyche is among the front runners to take over from Frank Lampard as Everton manager this month after the Toffees sacked Lampard – and Carlo Ancelotti gave his verdict on Dyche’s style of play at Burnley, back in March 2021.
Dyche, 51, has been out of work since being sacked by Burnley in April 2022. The Clarets were then relegated, while Dyche is still looking for a new home. He is now approaching a year out of football, but he is a contender for Everton.
The Sun report that Dyche is very interested in a move to become Everton manager. Lampard was sacked earlier this week, after a dismal 2-0 loss to West Ham on the weekend. The Toffees currently sit in a woeful 19th in the League.
Speaking on Dyche and his style of play, then-Everton manager Ancelotti was very complimentary. He said he had been brought up on the 4-4-2 formation. Not only did Ancelotti praise Dyche’s style, but says he is a “good guy”.

“I like their style of play. Because they play clear 4-4-2. I was born 4-4-2 with [Arrigo] Sacchi as player and assistant. [Dyche] is a good guy. We have spent some time before games. I respect the style of play of Burnley. I like it a lot”.
Dyche among Everton front runners: Ancelotti gave 2021 verdict
Is Dyche the man Everton fans want? Reaction on social media seems like a mixed one. Everton are in real trouble and Dyche would sort the Toffees out defensively. He would make them hard to beat – before focusing on the attack.
He would reunite with James Tarkowski and use that as a base to progress defensively. Dyche would also have Dwight McNeil out wide and could get the best out of him. McNeil has struggled at Everton since his move from Burnley.
