Gary Rowett is expecting Premier League interest in Tyler Burey but has dismissed speculation linking the Millwall winger with a move to West Ham United, speaking to South London Press.

It’s a testament to West Ham’s recruitment that three of the players who could start tonight’s Europa League semi-final first leg clash with Eintracht Frankfurt were all plying their trade in the Championship not so long ago.

And, perhaps inspired by the success of Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Craig ‘Ballon D’Orson’ at the London Stadium, the Hammers are reportedly hoping to repeat the trick with yet more second-tier talent.

According to The Athletic, West Ham plan to open talks with Hull City’s Humberside hero Keane Lewis-Potter. Tigers team-mate Jacob Greaves is another target, alongside Bristol City’s 18-year-old enforcer Alex Scott.

The Hull Daily Mail, meanwhile, believe that Moyes was at The Den to keep tabs on Burey, as well as Lewis-Potter and Greaves, during Hull’s 2-1 defeat to Millwall on Easter weekend.

Not that Lions boss Rowett is losing any sleep with the transfer window set to open in a matter of weeks.

Will West Ham sign another Jarrod Bowen?

“They are all just stories at this stage of the season,” the former Derby, Stoke and Birmingham City coach said when asked about West Ham’s interest in 21-year-old Burey.

“Five per cent of the transfer speculation has some truth and the other 95 per cent is just to stoke it up by different outlets and different people. Everyone wants a story.

“Tyler Burey got in our team and was scoring goals. I imagine most Premier League clubs would watch him at some point, just like they would with Zak (Lovelace) or Billy Mitchell.

“But coming to watch someone and putting an offer in to sign them are two very different things. I don’t really treat it particularly seriously.”

London-born Burey, who can play up front, out wide or in an advanced midfield role, has scored five times during his breakthrough season at Millwall, going from strength to strength on the back of a promising loan spell at Hartlepool United in 2021/22.

“He’s been a breath of fresh air,” Millwall team-mate Danny McNamara tells News At Den.

“He’s been class (and) he’s so direct, he’s quick, he’s a goal threat. It’s good to have him in the team and give him the ball.”
