Rangers secured a massive result in the UEFA Youth League as the U-19 side beat Swedish champions Hammarby in Scotland.
Robbie Ure gave the Gers an early 11th-minute lead before a second-half brace from Ross McCausland secured the three points for Rangers. The Scottish giants will head to Sweden next month to play the second leg.
The result puts Rangers firmly one foot into the Round of 16 of the UEFA competition. Should the U-19 side progress, they will face either Sparta Prague or Red Star Belgrade in the next phase of the tournament.
Steven Gerrard’s side were close to qualifying for the UEFA Champions League this summer. However, defeat to Swedish side Malmo in the qualifying stage meant that Rangers would once against compete in the UEFA Europa League.
Indeed, Rangers impressed in the competition last season. The reigning SPL champions made it to the last 16 where they were eliminated by Slavia Prague.
With the senior side facing off against Sparta Prague tomorrow, the U-19’s have got Rangers off to a flying start in Europe this week with a big win in the Youth League.
