England’s dream of ending the 60-year FIFA World Cup drought came at a crashing end against Argentina.

Harry Kane’s England took on Argentina during the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals, and they nearly clinched a spot in the finals.

However, Anthony Gordon’s 55th-minute opener was rendered useless as Argentina slammed in two goals, both created by Lionel Messi, during the dying minutes of the game.

Most fans have blamed England manager Thomas Tuchel’s tactics for the defeat, and US President Donald Trump has now joined the conversation.

Donald Trump says Thomas Tuchel failed to utilize Harry Kane against Argentina

Prior to the Argentina game, England’s attack had been led by a two-headed snake of Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham, both sitting on six World Cup goals each.

Unfortunately, Tuchel’s park-the-bus tactics after the Gordon goal made them sit deep in their own half. Trump has now called out the England manager, particularly for his questionable use of Kane.

“You have a great player in England, who I played golf with. You know that, right? He is Harry, who’s been fantastic. I think they perhaps made a mistake when they made him a defensive player,” Trump said.

He added, “What do I know about soccer? They took the lead, and they took their best player, and they put him on defense. Then somehow.

“We got to be a little offensive, right? But no, I’m not gonna call it… Look, what do I know about coaching? I thought that was a little unusual, but Harry is a great guy actually.”

Considering England had just 12% of possession since Gordon’s opener, it’s no surprise that Kane barely made an impact on the game.

It’s safe to say that the US President echoed the feelings of thousands of English fans scratching their heads over Tuchel’s overly defensive tactics against the defending World Cup champions.
