Tottenham were rejected by Ilaix Moriba back in August 2021 as Fabio Paratici held talks over a deal for the Guinea international.

The 20-year-old opted to join RB Leipzig rather than move to Spurs, with Sky Germany claiming that he did in fact turn the north Londoners down.

Sky Sports even claimed that an agreement between Tottenham and Moriba was close before the Bundesliga side swooped in, leaving many at Spurs disappointed.

Now – however – the north Londoners have another chance to sign him.

What’s the story?

Well, Max Eberl – Director of Football at RB Leipzig – has told LVZ Talk that he doesn’t want Moriba.

The 49-year-old said: “I don’t want any player who doesn’t want to play for Leipzig.”

Eberl’s comments come while Moriba is on loan at Valencia, where he has made eight starts in La Liga.

Clearly, the £14m man doesn’t seem to have much of a future waiting for him back in Germany, so it would seem like another loan move, or a permanent exit, awaits him this summer.

Tottenham no longer need Moriba

By the looks of things, Tottenham dodged a bullet with Moriba, who has struggled to make an impact at either RB Leipzig or Valencia since his £14m move to Germany in August 2021.

Now, Spurs hopefully won’t be thinking about going back in for his signature, as they no longer have much need for his services.

Tottenham have since signed Yves Bissouma, who Spurs fans are yet to see the best of.

However – depending on who replaces Antonio Conte – the Malian could thrive next season in the right system.

Pape Matar Sarr has also broken through as a reliable senior option, joining Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur in Tottenham’s midfield department.

Therefore, unless one of these players depart, we wouldn’t expect Spurs to resurrect their Moriba pursuit.
