James McClean was never going to miss a chance to reiterate his dream of signing for Celtic after playing for an Ireland XI in Scott Brown’s testimonial on Sunday.

The West Brom winger is a Celtic fan through and through, a fact he has confirmed on countless occasions. And he certainly seemed keen to make an impression in the 2-2 ‘friendly’ draw at Parkhead with Hoops fans taking to Twitter after the game to make clear that they would welcome McClean in Glasgow.

And, in quotes reported by the Scottish Sun after the game, McClean once again pointed out that a move to Celtic would be very difficult to turn down.

That’s always been the dream. Unfortunately that’s not up to me. If it was up to me it would have happened a long time ago,” the 29-year-old winger told Celtic TV.

“Who knows? Fingers crossed. Maybe one day.”

Maybe this summer? McClean was relegated from the Premier League last season with West Brom and The Baggies look set to lose a number of their key players as they pay the price for dropping into the Championship.

So far, however, McClean has been one of the few members of the first team not heavily linked with a move away from The Hawthorns this summer.

Though with Celtic’s attack looking a little one-paced and profitable at times in 2018, particularly with Scott Sinclair bang out of form, this could be the perfect time to hand McClean the chance he’s always been waiting for.
