Derby County were reportedly keen to sign James Morrison from West Bromwich Albion in the summer transfer window.

After weeks of speculation surrounding his future, West Bromwich Albion have finally made a decision about the future of long-serving midfielder James Morrison.
The 32-year-old’s contract with the Baggies expired at the beginning of June and it seemed that he would follow the likes of Claudio Yacob and Boaz Myhill out of The Hawthorns after the Baggies finished bottom of the Premier League last season.
But Morrison, who joined West Brom from Middlesbrough for £1.5 million all the way back in 2007, has remained at the club over the last few weeks, training with the Baggies squad in order to keep up his fitness.
And the Express and Star reports that Morrison has done enough behind the scenes to convince manger Darren Moore that he should be kept around. It is understood that West Brom will sit down with the Scotland international’s representatives in the coming days in order to discuss a new deal.

This is a blow for Derby County who, along with Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers, were keen to sign Morrison on a free transfer according to Sky Sports.
Derby boss Frank Lampard has been on the lookout for a dynamic central midfielder like John McGinn and Glen Kamara. Morrison would have ticked a lot of boxes.
But their loss could now be West Brom’s gain.
