Celtic are reportedly targeting Jack Marriott, who scored 33 goals for League One side Peterborough United this season.

Celtic face plenty of competition as they aim to lure the £5 million-rated Peterborough United goal machine Jack Marriott to Parkhead – not least from their Old Firm rivals Rangers.

The Scottish Sun state that both Glasgow giants have been scouting the 23-year-old striker and a quick glance at his statistics explains exactly why. Marriott, who compares his style to that of Sergio Aguero, has posted a goal tally that Manchester City’s number ten would be proud of this season, notching 33 in all competitions.

And the chances are that Marriott, who only moved to Posh last summer from Luton Town, will not be sticking around for a second season at the London Stadium.

Manager Steve Evans admitted late last month that Marriott was likely to be sold in the summer due to the huge degree of interest, while the Nottingham Post suggested that he had played his last game for the club.

And now, HITC sources are indicating that Peterborough are putting plans in place to prepare for Marriott’s seemingly inevitable departure this summer.

It is understood that the League One side have agreed a deal to sign Stevenage forward Matty Godden on the back of his 14-goal season in English football’s fourth tier.

Godden, like Marriott, would be stepping up from League Two to League One and could be a ready-made replacement for arguably the Football League’s most in-demand player.

That should give Celtic hope, provided they are willing to pay £5 million.
