HITC Sport understands Peterborough have bid for Stevenage star Matt Godden.

Peterborough United have agreed a fee with Stevenage for striker Matt Godden, HITC Sport understands.

Godden is one of the most sought-after players outside the Championship following his goalscoring exploits for Stevenage during the last couple of seasons.

The 26-year-old joined Stevenage in the summer of 2016 after scoring 30 goals for National League South club Ebbsfleet in the 2015-16 campaign.

Godden scored 21 goals in his debut season for Stevenage last term and he netted 14 goals this campaign.

Godden’s displays have not gone unnoticed higher up the football pyramid with Championship and League One clubs keeping tabs on the former Scunthorpe youngster.

Peterborough are hoping to steal a march on their rivals in their pursuit of Godden by making an undisclosed bid for the striker which has been accepted by Stevanage with the player entering the final year of his contract at the Lamex Stadium.

Peterborough boss Steve Evans is busy reshaping his squad for next season after missing out on the League One play-offs this term and he has made Godden one of his top targets.
