Derby County were linked with a massive move for John Terry – but now reportedly want former Leicester defender Robert Huth.

John Terry proved once and for all that age is just a number last season.
At 37-years-old, Terry was in fantastic form as he led Aston Villa to the Championship play-off final last season. Signed with his best years supposedly behind him and on a massive £60,000-a-week wage, there were plenty of doubts when the former Chelsea skipper arrived but the cynics suddenly transformed into fanatics.
Nonetheless, that has not stopped the Derby County fans expressing their doubts amid reports in The Daily Star that Terry has agreed to join his former Chelsea and England team-mate Frank Lampard at Pride Park this summer.

The veteran defender would have to take a massive pay cut with Derby wanting to slash the budget but still would hardly come cheap.
Maybe this is why Derby appear to be looking instead at another experienced Premier League centre-back this summer. The Mail has reported that The Rams are one of a number of second-tier sides keen to sign Robert Huth following his release from Leicester City.
Now, Huth might not, and never has been, in the same class as the man he once shared a dressing room with at Stamford Bridge. But the giant German is a very solid centre-back who, like current Derby ace Curtis Davies, could stand out in the Championship. He won the Premier League just two years ago after all.

And Huth, four years younger than Terry, is likely to come a lot cheaper too, which should suit Derby down to the ground. It makes no sense, financially or otherwise, to sign them both.
So is Derby’s Huth interest the biggest sign yet that Terry will not be wearing white next season?
