Harry Cochrane has enhanced his wonderkid status as Hearts beat Scottish Premiership champions Celtic 4-0 at Tynecastle on Sunday.
Hearts made history when they became the first Scottish side to defeat Celtic under the reign of manager Brendan Rodgers. A never-before-seen run of 69 unbeaten domestic games came grinding to a brutal halt on Sunday at Tynecastle, as Craig Levein’s side cruised to a well-deserved 4-0 victory.
And 16-year-old Harry Cochrane was the star of the show. Arguably the brightest teenage talent in Scottish football right now, Cochrane set Hearts on their way with a brilliant first-half finish, capping a dazzling performance which had Celtic supporters purring.
Magic…special…unbelievable; these were just some of the superlatives used to describe the fresh-faced midfielder’s staggering performance.
But the one downside of a perfect day for Hearts fans is that Cochrane, if he wasn’t already, is likely to be on the radar of countless clubs after that breakthrough performance against the Champions.
And with Celtic themselves spending the last few years aiming to bring Scotland’s most exciting talents to Parkhead, it seems almost inevitable that The Hoops will be hot on the trail of the Glasgow-born wonderkid – who started his career in Rangers’ youth academy.
With the January transfer window just days away, should Celtic make Hearts an offer they simply cannot refuse for Cochrane? It remains to be seen how much the Jam Tarts would demand for their prized asset – but whatever the price tag, his valuation is likely to skyrocket with more performances like this.
Celtic supporters would be more than happy to see Cochrane wearing the green and white after witnessing his alarming talent at close quarters.
