Report: Hull’s Michael Dawson will decide on Nottingham Forest return this week

Michael Dawson could return to Nottingham Forest 13 years after leaving with his contract at Championship rivals Hull City due to expire.

Nottingham Forest fans have been waiting since January to find out whether Michael Dawson would be making an emotional return to the City Ground this summer. And the Championship giants should finally get their answer before the week is out.

HITC sources told us last week that Forest have held talks about signing the 34-year-old centre-back when his contract at Hull City expires this summer.

Dawson started his career at Nottingham Forest but left for Tottenham Hotspur all the way back in 2005. Aitor Karanka tried and failed to lure Dawson back in January, only for Hull to block the move at the eleventh hour.

But with the former England defender set to be a free-agent, he will be able to choose his own fate. And the Hull Daily Mail states that Dawson will make a decision about his future in the next few days as Nottingham Forest wait patiently.

It is understood that Hull have offered Dawson a new contract but have been unable to match the two-year deal put on the table by Forest. And while the club captain enjoys a close relationship with Tigers manager Nigel Adkins, the chance to return to where it all began obviously appeals.

Dawson would add some much needed experience to a Forest side who could bid farewell to four of their most long-serving players this summer, Eric Lichaj, David Vaughan, Jack Hobbs and the retiring Chris Cohen.
