It seems that Adel Taarabt could be in line for a second spell in the Championship with Queens Park Rangers after all.

Ever since Portuguese publication Record stated this week that Adel Taarabt was set for a return to England, there has been a buzz around Queens Park Rangers.

The 29-year-old might have never come close to realising his massive potential but remains fondly remembered at Loftus Road, largely for an outstanding 2010/11 season.

Taarabt scored 19 goals to win the Football League Player of the Year award while inspiring QPR to promotion from the Championship.

And with the mercurial Moroccan apparently having been made available by Benfica, QPR fans on Twitter made it clear that they’d love Taarabt to make an emotional return. Speaking to Love Sport Radio (12 December, 9pm) his former team-mate Shaun Derry gave his backing to the move as well.

According to A Bola, QPR are interested in bringing Taarabt back to Loftus Road, with Benfica seemingly considering releasing the out-of-favour midfielder from a contract that still has a year-and-a-half left to run.

Benfica midfielder Adel Taarabt (23) during the first half of the game between the New York Red Bulls and SL Benfica played at Red Bull Arena in Harrison,NJ.

It is understood that Taarabt, who is not even playing for the B team, is earning around £2 million a year at the Estadio da Luz.

They say never go back. But if Taarabt returns to QPR and inspires a shock promotion charge then he will only cement his legendary status in West London.
