Former Queens Park Rangers hero Adel Taarabt could be in line for a sensational move back to England this January, with a Championship club the likely destination.

That is according to Portuguese outlet Record and the news has certainly generated interest from supporters of his former employees.

QPR fans have turned to Twitter and urged the club to make a move for Taarabt, with many hopeful he can return the glory days to Loftus Road.

That is despite Taarabt not making a single appearance for Benfica this season, including the reserve team, so it does beg the question as to why Rs fans are so keen to want him back.

Naturally, Taarabt’s return would provide a lot of nostalgia among the Rangers faithful, but his questionable desire and work rate would not supplement what Rangers boss Steve McClaren is looking for.

The former England manager has made a positive impression since taking over in W12 back in May and, with the success of Luke Freeman and Eberechi Eze, there is simply no need to add a similar player in the shape of Taarabt.

Taarabt is no spring chicken these days, either. At the age of 29, and with very little football under his belt, it would likely be more hassle than what it is worth to try to re-tune Taarabt to what he once was.

Still, this has not stopped a section of the Rs following yearn for the return of their former hero with the best reaction from Twitter here:
