Several supporters of West Bromwich Albion have called for Gary Megson to come back to The Hawthorns and save their Premier League skin.
West Brom produced possibly their best result of a dreadful season during Gary Megson’s brief spell in temporary charge.
In between the sacking of Tony Pulis and the appointment of Alan Pardew in November, the Baggies’ assistant boss led them to a 1-1 draw away at Wembley against Mauricio Pochettino’s thrilling Tottenham Hotspur side.
Performances of this energy and enthusiasm have been badly missing since Megson left, however, with Pardew bringing in his own coaching staff.
But with the former Newcastle United and Crystal Palace boss’s position seemingly hanging by a thread after the home defeat to Huddersfield Town, which leaves West Brom seven points adrift of safety, Baggies fans have taken to Twitter to demand Megson’s return to The Hawthorns.
The 58-year-old certainly knows the club well, after all. Before his brief spell as caretaker boss four months ago, Megson spent four years in charge of West Brom between 2000 and 2004, leading them into the Premier League for the first time.
But according to the Express and Star, it is unlikely that Megson will return for a third spell should Pardew lose his job, with a make-or-break clash with Watford coming up next weekend.
It is understood that the one-time Nottingham Forest and Leicester City coach does not see eye-to-eye with chief executive Mark Jenkins, meaning West Brom would look at alternative options.
Marco Silva, who failed to keep Hull City in the top flight last season despite engineering some vastly improved performances, had been one of the front-runners, but the Express and Star claims he does not want the job.
