Blackburn Rovers’ teenage winger is out of contract in the summer and could be on his way to Barnsley.
Barnsley could take advantage of Connor Mahoney’s contract situation at Blackburn Rovers by swooping for the youngster in the summer, The Sun reports.
The Tykes are attempting to reinforce their squad after a turbulent transfer window in which top scorer Sam Winnall, captain Conor Hourihane and teenage right-back James Bree (below) all departed.

And Mahoney is reportedly at the top of their list despite the 19-year-old only featuring in 25 minutes of Championship action all season.

The Lancashire Telegraph reported last month that Blackburn had turned down a number of loan requests for the winger, while manager Owen Coyle admitted that he was determined to keep him at the club long term.

As it stands, however, Mahoney’s contract expires at the end of the season and The Sun reports that Barnsley, who had a bid rejected in January, could return to complete the deal in the summer window and hope to agree compensation of just £150,000.

While offering depth to a Barnsley squad depleted by mid-season departures, the move would rub salt into the wounds of Blackburn fans after a horrible season marred by protests that leaves the club entrenched in a relegation battle.
