Championship giants Aston Villa told Alan Hutton in January that he had no future at Villa Park and would have to leave in the summer.

Perhaps Alan Hutton has a future at Aston Villa after all.

As reported by The Mirror in January, the 33-year-old right-back had been informed that the club would not extend his contract beyond the end of this season, a decision which left Hutton ‘shocked and disappointed’.

It was understood that a Villa side under pressure from Financial Fair Play were hoping to make cut-backs and were prepared to sacrifice Hutton, despite the Scot being one of their most consistent players this season.

But according to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa could be about to perform a dramatic U-turn.

Since the January transfer window closed, Hutton has been in impressive form and proved his worth to manager Steve Bruce by filling in admirably at left-back when Neil Taylor was suspended.

And the report suggests that the former Rangers and Tottenham man’s recent performances have seen Villa backtrack on their decision to let him go – which should please Bruce.

After all, the manager stated in February that he would hope to offer Hutton a new contract should Villa be promoted this season, and therefore have the financial freedom to tie down a player who has been at the club for seven years.

And Hutton, who lives locally and has started 24 league games this season, would be more than happy to extend his stay.
