Scottish Premiership giants Rangers had themselves to blame after failing to lure Louis Moult to Ibrox and Preston North End could make them pay again.

The former Motherwell front man had been linked with a move to Ibrox for a number of months and Moult, who scored twice against Rangers in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals, looked like an excellent and affordable addition to a side lacking a goal-scorer proven in the domestic game.
But just a few weeks after Preston took full advantage of Rangers’ refusal to meet Motherwell’s asking price, as reported by the Scottish Sun, could the Gers make the same mistake again?

The Daily Record reported on Monday that Hamilton Academical have dismissed a paltry £300,000 offer from Rangers for talented midfielder Greg Docherty. It is understood that the bid falls well below the club’s valuation of the 21-year-old and the Ibrox giants will have to double their money.
But while Rangers are once again starting the bidding almost insultingly low, the report adds that Preston have now joined the race to nab Docherty from under the Glasgow giants’ nose.

Rangers’ transfer strategy has not exactly looked all that intelligent of late, with the likes of Jamie Walker and Kenny McLean slipping through their grasp. Rangers made offers well below the asking price for both players and were unsurprisingly laughed out of the door.
And history appears to be repeating itself with Docherty the new man in demand. Preston could once again step in with Rangers dawdling.
