Three-and-a-half years after swapping Wearside for Tyneside, Jack Colback could soon be back at Sunderland with Newcastle United seemingly desperate to get rid.

It’s fair to say Sunderland fans weren’t too happy with Jack Colback when the Black Cats’ academy graduate decided to make that short trip to Tyneside when his contract expired in the summer of 2014.
The midfielder became the first player since Lionel Perez in 1998 to leave Sunderland for Newcastle United – stating when he was officially unveiled as a Sunderland player that he was overjoyed by the chance to turn out for his boyhood club.
Three-and-a-half years later, however, Colback could compete the rarest of transfer circles. According to TEAMtalk, Sunderland are hopeful of bringing the 28-year-old back for a second spell at the Stadium of Light in the New Year.

Though it is not the greatest reflection on Colback that Newcastle fans seem far more hopeful of a January move than their Sunderland counterparts.
While the Wearside faithful have warned their cash-strapped club not to go anywhere near the Killingworth-born midfielder, it seems that Newcastle supporters wouldn’t be shedding too many tears if Colback was to leave the club next month.

Despite his clear devotion to The Magpies, Colback has never been a fans’ favourite. And he’s fallen out of favour with manager Rafa Benitez this season too, demoted to the reserves after refusing to leave in the summer.
The phrase ‘good riddance’ comes to mind.
