Rangers released Craig Halkett in 2016.

Did Rangers make one of the biggest mistakes in recent seasons when they released Craig Halkett in January 2016?
The defender joined The Gers’ academy in 2007 but he was discarded nine years later without ever making his debut for the Glasgow giants. Shortly after, however, he joined Livingston and, in Halkett’s own words, he hasn’t looked back.
The 23-year-old has been a revelation at the New Douglas Park, helping Livi seal successive promotions and return to the Scottish Premiership in May. And it is a credit to Halkett’s performances in the top flight that some have suggested that Rangers should look to bring him back to Ibrox.
But, speaking to the Sunday Post, Halkett has played down speculation linking him with a return home, though he has admitted that he’s enjoying the attention.
“It is flattering, of course. I’ve got pals who are Rangers fans asking me if it’s true but I have to tell them I’ve not paid it any notice.”

Halkett has arguably been the stand-out defender anywhere in the Scottish Premiership this season and Rangers fans were particularly impressed by his performance in the goalless draw against Celtic before the international break.
And with the Express reporting that manager Steven Gerrard wants to sign another centre-back in January, Rangers could do worse than to look at bringing Halkett back to the where it all began.
