Kacper Przybylko was keen to continue his career with League One Sunderland but headed to the MLS with Philadelphia Union instead.
Kacper Przybylko made no secret about the fact that he would have jumped at the chance to sign for Sunderland.
The striker had a trial on Wearside back in August after leaving German sleeping giants Kaiserslautern and, writing on his official Instagram account, he said it would be ‘an honour’ to sign for a club who had been relegated to the third tier of English football just weeks earlier.
By the time the dust settled, however, Sunderland weighed up their options and decided against offering Przybylko a contract. Soon after, the 25-year-old was on his way to the MLS with Philadelphia Union – but is he showing the Black Cats what they’re missing?
Not exactly. In two months in America, the former Poland U21 international is yet to make a single appearance for Union.
And Przybylko could soon find himself without a club again very soon. Because his short-term contract is due to expire at the end of 2018 – and The Inquirer reports that a decision on his future has not yet been made.
Who knows, maybe Sunderland will have a second look at the German-born striker if he is a free agent again at the start of 2019. But with Charlie Wyke, Duncan Watmore and Andrew Nelson recovering from injury, and with the Wearside club desperate to tie down Josh Maja to a new deal, this seems unlikely.
