Jordan Henderson has started just one Premier League game for Liverpool this season but shone in the Champions League win against Paris Saint-Germain

Ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash against PSG on Tuesday night, Jordan Henderson spoke of his desire to force his way back into Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up.
But the captain’s comments were greeted by some rather ungrateful Liverpool supporters on Twitter, who seemed to revel in Henderson’s reduced role in the side this season after the summer arrival of Naby Keita and the stunning form of James Milner.
Henderson remains a divisive player and for all those who believe that his leadership and energy are crucial to Liverpool’s hopes, there are plenty of others who think he simply isn’t good enough.
But the former Sunderland man’s stand-out performance against Paris Saint-Germain should have shut up those critics for now at least.
Henderson was far from the headline performer in Liverpool’s dramatic 3-2 win with James Milner, Andy Robertson, Daniel Sturridge and match-winner Roberto Firmino being heavily praised.

But the England international’s role in a brilliant and deserved victory should not be overlooked. Flanked by Milner and Gini Wijnaldum, Henderson helped dominate the midfield, his work-rate and willingness to keep things simple ensuring that Liverpool looked by far the more functional of the two teams.
Henderson produced a joint game high two key balls, completed three successful tackles and boasted a pass completion rate of 87 per cent.
Yes, he is not the most gifted or glamorous midfielder in world football. But he remains crucial in games like this.
