Scottish Premiership outfit Rangers have got rid of Jason Holt and Greg Docherty is set to leave too – but will Andy Halliday stay at Ibrox now?

Steven Gerrard obviously feels that he has a few too many midfielders in his Rangers squad.
Jason Holt has been loaned out to Fleetwood Town while Greg Docherty looks set to join him in League One. The Mail (22 July, page 68) reports that third tier duo Rotherham and Shrewsbury are both interested in signing the former Hamilton man on a temporary basis.
But does Docherty’s seemingly impending exit open a door for Andy Halliday to save his Rangers career? A career that looked over as far back as last summer, when he moved to Azerbaijani outfit Gabala in a loan deal that proved to be hugely unsuccessful.
Halliday might have featured for just a matter of minutes during Rangers’ Europa League qualifying win against Macedonian minnows Shkupi but his inclusion suggests that he could be part of Gerrard’s plans after all.
And Halliday certainly has something both Holt and Docherty don’t – versatility.

The 26-year-old former Middlesbrough and Bradford man is most comfortable in central midfield but can also play at left-back – an area where Rangers are arguably a little light on quality, particularly with Lee Wallace’s future still very much up in the air having lost the captains armband to James Tavernier.
Halliday told the Scottish Sun in June that he was loving life under Gerrard at Ibrox having benefited from a gruelling pre-season. Could he now be about to embark on perhaps the most important season of his career?
