Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty is attracting interest in England.

According to The Sunday Mail (p68, 22/07), Rotherham United and Shrewsbury Town are both keen on signing Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty this summer.

Docherty, 21, came up through the ranks with Hamilton Academical, and his impressive displays for the Accies earned him huge praise and interest in the January transfer window.

Rangers pounced to sign Docherty, handing him a dream move to Ibrox having grown up supporting the club, and he ended the season as a first-choice midfielder under Graeme Murty.

However, Rangers now have a whole host of midfielders having signed Ovie Ejaria, Scott Arfield and Lassana Coulibaly this summer, whilst new boss Steven Gerrard also has Graeme Dorrans, Ryan Jack, Ross McCrorie, Jordan Rossiter, Andy Halliday and even Daniel Candeias at his disposal in midfield.

Docherty has now been told that he can leave Rangers on loan this summer, and The Sunday Mail (p68, 22/07) report that two clubs in England have now shown their interest in signing him.

Newly-promoted Championship club Rotherham United are thought to have expressed an interest in signing Docherty, as have League One side Shrewsbury Town ahead of August’s transfer deadline.

Rangers clearly want Docherty to earn experience playing elsewhere, and they may well favour loaning him to a Championship club given the higher level of competition.

Docherty himself would have a tough decision to make, but a move to England appears to be on the cards for the midfielder, whether it’s League One or the Championship.
