The 30-year-old was in inspired form for Preston on Saturday although that does not mean Everton will give him a chance.
Aiden McGeady’s ability has never been in question. One of the most naturally gifted players to emerge out of Ireland in recent years, his inability to add consistency to his undoubted class has regrettably stood in the way of him from fulfilling his potential.
Now 30, McGeady is spending the season on loan at Preston North End after mustering just 32 Premier League appearances in two seasons at Everton. And, as reported by the Lancashire Post, a return to Goodison Park at the end of the campaign is most unlikely.
“I’ve still got another year [on my contract] at Everton but I think it is quite clear that I’m not part of the manager’s plans there,” the former Celtic star admitted.

Yet McGeady has thrived at Preston, his dazzling performance in their 4-2 victory against Brentford at the weekend proving exactly why he remains one of Britain’s most naturally skilful footballers.
Thumping home a 25-yard drive before serving up a goal for Callum Robinson on a garnished plate via an exquisite reverse pass, the winger then combined quick feet, balance and a clinical finish to fire home a second from the edge of the box.
Key factor makes Everton unlikely to lose star man to European giants
Under Simon Grayson, he has thrived amid freedom.
“The manager doesn’t ever get on your case if you lose the ball when trying to make something happen,” he added to the Lancashire Post.

“He appreciates that is what attacking players do, if you try to score goals and create something, there are going to be things that don’t come off.”
It is fair to say Ronald Koeman does nt share the same carefree mind-set. After all, the immensely gifted Gerard Deulofeu was farmed out to AC Milan after failing to up his work rate.

Enigmatic mavericks, of which McGeady is king, are not the Dutchman’s cup of tea.
