The Scotsman was a controversial figure at Everton – but appears much more popular at Aston Villa.

With Aston Villa now 16 points adrift of the play-off positions thanks to a devastating run of five defeats in six league fixtures, a number of fans are starting to sniff out a scapegoat.

Steve Bruce’s perceived negativity on the tactics board has added to the displeasure on the terraces while owner Tony Xia is coming under increasing pressure to back up his ambitious promises with visible signs of progression.

And Stan Collymore, a former Aston Villa player himself, has taken to Twitter to question the impact of CEO Keith Wyness, another major player in the stalling ‘revolution’.

The affable Scotsman, who worked at Everton between 2004 and 2008, has certainly shaken things up at Villa Park, helping move on a whole host of underperforming players, improving staff morale behind the scenes and attempting to improve communication with a disenchanted fanbase, the Birmingham Mail reports.

However, with many of the club’s expensive signings underperforming and the team stagnating since the turn of the year, Collymore has asked Everton fans, a number of whom protested Wyness’ controversial plans for a new 50,000 seater stadium in Kirby, for their views – and it doesn’t exactly make good reading for Villa.

Nonetheless, it appears somewhat harsh that Wyness, despite playing a major role in the disastrous appointment of Roberto Di Matteo in the summer according to the Birmingham Mail, could become a target for disappointed fans.
