Jordan Smith has not played a Championship game for Nottingham Forest since January and Aitor Karanka wants more goalkeepers this summer.

The 23-year-old became the latest in a long line of academy graduates to force his way into Forest’s first-team in the latter stages of 2016/17 and kept his position between the sticks for the first half of last season, too.

But, once Aitor Karanka replaced Mark Warburton ahead of the January transfer window, Smith’s place in the starting XI was taken away. Forest brought in Costel Pantilimon from Watford and Stefanos Kapino from Olympiacos.
Since then, Smith has not played a single minute of first-team football and was left out of the matchday squad for 11 straight games between February and March before returning on the bench for the end of the season, with Pantilimon absent for personal reasons.
But, according to the Mirror, Forest are keen to sign the Romanian permanently from Watford. The Scottish Sun states that they are also interested in Rangers’ Wes Foderingham while SDNA in Greece has linked them with experienced Spaniard Roberto Jimenez (below).

So it seems that Smith’s career has stalled at Forest, at least as long as Karanka remains in charge. The youngster did make a couple of mistakes, and conceded 46 goals in 29 Championship games last season, but he remains a promising talent who could surely command the number one jersey at plenty of other Championship clubs.
So he should seriously give some thought to his future this summer.
