Fans of Scottish Premiership giants Rangers want Sean Goss to stay at Ibrox permanently – but Championship side Queens Park Ranges might not agree.
Sean Goss has wasted no time in showing Rangers exactly why he was once tipped to be Michael Carrick’s long-term successor at Manchester United.
The promising midfielder moved to Ibrox on loan from Queens Park Rangers in the January transfer window, after struggling for opportunities during 12 fruitless months at Loftus Road.
But while Goss struggled in London, he has made a real impression north of the border in Glasgow. He has already started five Premiership games for Graeme Murty’s men, but it was his performance against Ayr United in the Scottish Cup recently that really caught the eye.
Goss was in sublime form against the League One outfit, spraying passes around the pitch and dictating the tempo from deep in a distinctly Carrick-esque manner. Did we mention that he set up four of the goals in a 6-1 win?
It is little wonder that Rangers fans are already dreaming of Goss making loan move permanent at the end of the season with his deal set to run only until the summer.
But, somewhat ironically, could Rangers’ hopes of keeping Goss at Ibrox be scuppered by his own fine performances?
QPR obviously still have some hope that he will make the grade in the English second tier or they would have given Rangers an option to buy him in the summer, as they have with fellow loanees Jason Cummings and Jamie Murphy from Nottingham Forest and Brighton respectively.
With funds not exactly flowing at Loftus Road, QPR are not exactly in a position where they can turn a blind eye to a player of Goss’ quality without the money to bring in an upgrade.
So Ian Holloway’s side will surely be keeping a close eye on Goss’ form – and should welcome him back to Loftus Road if he continues to star.
