Jordan Ayew has not scored a Premier League goal since swapping Swansea City for Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window.
Roy Hodgson has certainly been forced to think outside the box to solve Crystal Palace’s goal-scoring problems.
Christian Benteke remains bang out of form, Aleksander Sorloth is still without a Premier League goal and Connor Wickham has not played a single competitive game for two years due to injury.
But, unfortunately for Hodgson, Jordan Ayew has not exactly taken to his new centre-forward role like a duck to water.
The Ghana international arrived at Selhurst Park from Swansea City in the summer but is yet to score and was slammed by supporters on Twitter for his ineffective performance during Palace’s 2-1 defeat away at Bournemouth recently.
Though Ayew does have one man in his corner – the former Crystal Palace striker Andy Johnson.
“Ayew has just joined and I think he has done fantastic. He works hard and I think when he gets his first goal he might go on a goal-scoring streak. It just takes something like that,” Johnson, who scored 21 Premier League goals for The Eagles in 2004/05, told Football London.
Ayew did play a number of games at centre-forward for Swansea last season, scoring seven Premier League goals for a relegated side. But he has never been a prolific goalscorer, hitting double headers just three times in his entire career.
So a new and proven centre-forward should perhaps be Hodgson’s priority ahead of the January transfer window.
