Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after it was announced that Mike Dean would be in charge of Saturday’s meeting with Burnley.
What’s the story?
Well, the divisive figure has been appointed by the Premier League for this fixture, which sees Sean Dyche’s men travel to Anfield.
Funnily enough, it was Dean who officiated this exact fixture at Anfield last season.
The Clarets scored a late penalty to record a 1-0 win over Jürgen Klopp’s men, during a woeful run of form for the Reds at home.
Klopp and Alisson Becker didn’t seem too happy with Dean’s performance.
It was a controversial decision to award the spot-kick, and as seen in the photo below, the Liverpool duo wanted a word with Dean after full-time.
What else has Mike Dean done?

Liverpool fans have more than one reason to be upset about Dean being in charge of this fixture.
The 53-year-old officiated Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Anfield last season, in which he awarded another dubious penalty against the Reds.
Dean initially awarded the Blades a freekick after Fabinho fouled Oli McBurnie, but after a VAR review, a penalty was given.

As we mentioned at the time, it was a soft challenge, so even his awarding of a freekick was questionable.
Hopefully, there will be no drama this time around.
For now, let’s see how the Liverpool fans on Twitter reacted to Dean’s appointment…
