Yesterday, Sky Germany revealed that Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards had reached an agreement with Crystal Palace.
The story was rightly taken seriously, given the credibility of Sky Sports, although the claim has now reached new levels of credibility after Hasan Salihamidžić – Director of Football at Bayern Munich – spoke out.
What’s the story?
Well, the 45-year-old has been speaking to BILD, where he confirmed that talks are taking place with the south Londoners over a deal for Richards.
When asked about the rumour, Salihamidžić simply said: “We’re holding talks.”
Now, that will come as a blow to Southampton, as Ralph Hasenhuttl was hoping to bring the 22-year-old to the St Mary’s Stadium this summer.
Leeds have also been credited with an interest in the United States international, who is supposedly valued at £13m.
However, both Hasenhuttl and Jesse Marsch look set to miss out, as Patrick Vieira closes in on Richards.
Interest in the versatile defender comes after he made 23 appearances in all competitions last term, scoring one goal while also providing one assist during an impressive season-long loan at TSG Hoffenheim.
Crystal Palace set to beat Southampton to a gem

In our view, this could go down as one of the signings of the summer, if Crystal Palace can agree a reasonable fee with Bayern Munich.
It wasn’t long ago that Arsenal were taking a look at Richards, a player who has been tipped for big things.
Bayern Munich don’t just sign anybody, so it also speaks volumes that they moved to sign him from FC Dallas at the age of 19.

At the Allianz Arena, Richards has gained Champions League experience, making three appearances in Europe’s greatest club competition.
Surrounded by the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Serge Gnabry and Joshua Kimmich, under the watchful eye of Julian Nagelsmann, we also presume the American has developed significantly in Munich.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as it seems Crystal Palace are closing in.
