According to Transfermarkt, Arsenal are still interested in signing Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards – but signing him may be difficult.

It’s claimed that Arsenal in a fiercely-contested race for Richards, with Chelsea, Valencia and one major Bundesliga side also interested.

However, boss Hansi Flick is a big fan of Richards, and wants to integrate him into the first team at Bayern rather than let him go.

Any exit would likely be a loan deal, and Richards currently set to stay at the Allianz Arena rather than join Arsenal any time soon.

Bayern would only loan out Richards within Germany, so Arsenal may need to look elsewhere if they want to land a promising young defender.

Richards, 20, made his Bundesliga debut last month, and is touted for a huge future both in Germany and with the United States national team.

Primarily a centre back who can also play at right back, Richards will see the progression of Canadian star Alphonso Davies and feel that he can become the latest North American sensation at Bayern.

That versatility could have been attractive to Mikel Arteta, but it now looks unlikely that he will join Arsenal unless Flick has a change of heart.
