Dillon Brooks believes he’s found the right way to defend Victor Wembanyama and he is not shy about saying so.
The Phoenix Suns forward, renowned for his no-nonsense approach on defence, spoke openly about what it is like to match up with the San Antonio Spurs phenomenon.
Brooks suggested that Victor Wembanyama is well aware of the challenge he presents. Brooks also did not hesitate to explain what he feels separates effective defenders from the rest.

Dillon Brooks on guarding Victor Wembanyama
On a recent livestream, Dillon Brooks claimed that he has already proven himself as one of the few players capable of disrupting Victor Wembanyama’s rhythm.
He argued that the matchup requires a specific type of defender and a clear plan. Brooks went on to say that teams often make a critical mistake by assigning traditional big men to the task.
“I have his number. Go check that up. He knows it too. That’s the one guy in the NBA, I have his number.”
“Everybody now is taking that blueprint of guarding him. You never guard him with a big. Or else, you’ll see how he’s gonna torch.”
How Brooks thinks Wembanyama should be defended
Dillon Brooks went further by outlining the techniques he believes are essential to slowing Victor Wembanyama down. His focus centered on pressure, spacing, and denying easy paths to the basket.
“You gotta put a guard on him, all up on his space – tight. Do not let him set dribbles. Then keep him away from the rim.
“Or else, he’s gonna come like 2K! He panics. Only so many defenders that can guard Wemby, that’s for sure.”
Brooks concluded by acknowledging that only a small group of defenders can realistically execute that strategy.
