Where would Chelsea be without Cole Palmer? In truth, Mauricio Pochettino might not even be in a job.

The 21-year-old has been utterly devastating this season and was a key reason why Chelsea dumped Leicester City out of the FA Cup on Sunday.

There is history between these two in this competition, but despite the Championship high-flyers pulling two goals back after being 2-0 down.

They just couldn’t cope with the speed, quick-thinking and slick nature of Cole Palmer’s display, as he proved when he assisted Carney Chukwuemeka for the winner in stoppage time – the player then reacted to Raheem Sterling’s unforgettable afternoon.

Paul Merson wrote on Twitter that Cole Palmer was ‘different class’, with Chelsea now Wembley-bound once more.

That League Cup final defeat to Liverpool will still be ringing in the fans’ ears and hurting the club.

But if they can beat holders Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final, then their tails will be seriously up and they would back themselves to see off either Manchester United or Coventry City in the final.

Cole Palmer shines again for Chelsea

Cole Palmer at Euro 2024

To no one’s surprise, he was been picked by Gareth Southgate for England’s upcoming international fixtures.

Many fans will be hoping he is handed enough minutes to start because he certainly deserves it.

Yes, there is serious competition ahead of him, especially from his former Manchester City teammate, Phil Foden.

But why not start the duo together? And why not prepare for it now and then do it at Euro 2024 when it matters most?!
