Wales Online have criticised Tottenham defender Joe Rodon for his performance on Sunday evening as Rob Page’s side lost 1-0 to Poland in Cardiff – claiming he did not “look himself” and his decision making “caused problems” at times.
Rodon, 24, left Tottenham in the summer to join Ligue 1 side Rennes on loan. He has been impressing in France and after a couple of shaky displays, the Wales man has started to shine in red and black. He remains first choice for Wales.
But this international break has not gone to plan for the ex-Swansea defender. Arguably to blame for Belgium’s two goals last week during a 2-1 defeat, he was poor once again on Sunday evening as Poland edged to a narrow 1-0 win.
Wales Online gave their take of Rodon’s display. While they handed him a 6/10 rating for his performance, they said Rodon did not look like himself in what was his 30th cap for Wales. They also questioned his decision making.

“Some typically positive contributions, but just didn’t quite look himself at times. Showed a little hesitation in his decision-making alongside Cabango and Hennessey that occasionally caused problems,” Wales Online reported.
Tottenham defender Rodon criticised for Wales performance
It was certainly not his best. Wales have looked weaker in defence during the break without his Tottenham teammate, Ben Davies. There is no doubt that Rodon will remain first choice ahead of the World Cup, but he will expect better.
Certainly, his improving club form will be enough to get him a starting role in Qatar. Indeed, Rodon will be playing against England barring any injuries. But the centre-back is capable of much better, showing so at Rennes this season.
If Tottenham scouts were watching to report back to Antonio Conte on his progress, then they will be readying a disappointing report in the morning. However, Conte will also know his potential. At 24, time is on his side.
