Speaking on Last Word on Spurs, Ben Jacobs has been discussing Leandro Trossard’s future and Tottenham potentially signing the winger.

Now, this is a very interesting one.

According to Jacobs, Spurs initially turned down the chance to sign Trossard when offered the player by his agent initially, but now, with desperation taking hold at Spurs, they may make a U-turn and go in for the player.

Indeed, according to Jacobs there is a growing feeling that Spurs will enter the race for Trossard, but he did add the caveat that Spurs are yet to actually make a verbal bid for the player.

Spurs could go for Trossard

Jacobs shared his understanding of this situation.

“Tottenham didn’t engage originally, but now there is a feeling that they may advance their interest, which tells you that they would like a few more goals and Trossard could be available in January at a bargain. Brighton are very relaxed, I spoke to Paul Barber last week and they don’t like to do much January business, they’re having a great season.

“Obviously the Trossard situation is different due to his contract and that might leave them open to accepting an offer in January. He’s a form player, he missed the game against Middlesbrough, but that wasn’t transfer related.

“We have to wait and see how this progresses, we know that Trossard would like to leave, so it will come down to if Spurs see any value here.

“It’s not a Daniel Levy style signing, Tottenham don’t do these kind of deals where a contract is expiring, why would they pay money up front unless there was a huge urgency? Spurs’ problem is defensively.

“There may be a window of opportunity to get Trossard at a bargain to add more depth and because of the league position, Trossard could be the type of player Spurs advance on. It’s one to watch in the coming weeks I would say. We should be wary because the agent is prone to fuelling things, but talking to Spurs sources he’s on the radar.”

“There’s really a growing feeling here that Tottenham might enter the race, but there’s nothing contrary to reports yet that details a tangible verbal bid in a club-to-club sense.”

Type of player they need

Trossard would be a brilliant addition to this Tottenham team.

The Belgian has been in red-hot form so far this season, and he has everything required to be a star at a top club.

He’s quick, he’s smart and he’s a great finisher. He ticks almost every box for a Spurs winger.

There’s a reason he’s been described as ‘unreal’ in the past.

With Heung-Min Son’s form dropping off this season, perhaps Trossard would be just what the doctor ordered at Spurs.
