Chris Sutton has predicted on BBC Sport that Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur will beat Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League this weekend.

The former Chelsea striker believes that Tottenham will win the London derby 2-1.

The BBC Sport pundit was impressed by how Tottenham played against Southampton in their opening Premier League game of the season last weekend.

Spurs came from behind to hammer the Saints.

Chelsea also kicked off their Premier League campaign with a win last weekend, getting the better of Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park.

Chris Sutton on Chelsea v Tottenham Hotspur

Sutton wrote on BBC Sport: “Chelsea love playing Spurs – they beat them four times last season, and Tottenham have only beaten them once in the league at Stamford Bridge since February 1990.

“Spurs boss Antonio Conte was in charge of Chelsea for that defeat – in April 2018 – but I have a sneaky feeling he will enjoy this meeting a lot more.

“Chelsea got a good win at Everton, but the way they got it was not particularly pretty. If they are slightly off it again on Sunday, they won’t get away with it.

“Tottenham, meanwhile, were devastating in attack against Southampton and I am expecting more of the same from them here.

“Add in Conte going back to Stamford Bridge, and I am going to go with Spurs to take the points.

“They took the game to Saints anyway, but they also counter-attack so well when that turnover happens. When they get the ball into Kane with runners off him, they are so hard to stop.”

Big game ahead

In our view, the London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur this weekend will be massive.

Chelsea and Tottenham have very good teams, and the two sides will be looking to make a big point by winning this match at Stamford Bridge in London.

Playing at home will give the Blues an advantage, but Tottenham are a force to be reckoned with and head coach Conte will have a plan on how to get the better of his former club.

Now, of course, the result of the match will not be decisive in anything, but whichever side win, it will give them a massive psychological boost.
