Enzo Fernandez looks like he’s going to be on the move in the January transfer window.

The Argentine midfielder is being linked with every single club under the sun, and separate reports would have you believe that he’s agreed moves to both Chelsea and Liverpool.

Indeed, it has been reported that both the Blues and the Reds are closing in on this signing, but that now doesn’t seem to be the case.

It was also reported earlier this week that Fernandez would sit-out of Benfica’s game against Braga in order to focus on getting a transfer, so you can imagine the surprise when he was named in the starting XI for that game on Friday evening.

Fernandez was straight back into the team, but it does seem as though his mind may be elsewhere as he put in a torrid performance in a 3-0 loss.

It is interesting that Benfica chose to use Fernandez in this match. His mind surely isn’t in Lisbon at the moment, and a bad injury in this game could have scuppered any potential move this month.

Of course, Fernandez remains a Benfica player and they have every right to use him as they please, but given that it was reported this week that he was going to miss this game, his inclusion was a bit of a surprise.

Whether or not this is the last game Fernandez plays for Benfica remains to be seen. The Portuguese club seem to be intent on using him for as long as they have him, but with constant rumours swirling about both Chelsea and Liverpool, it may just be a matter of time before Fernandez boards a plane to England to sign for a new club.

One thing is for sure, he’ll have to play better than he did on Friday if he’s going to be a success in the Premier League.
