HITC understand that Ryan Jack is on the verge of agreeing a move to Rangers.

Former Aberdeen and Celtic ace Derek Whyte has told The Scottish Sun that Ryan Jack should snub a move to Rangers this summer.

Jack, 25, was born in Aberdeen and has come up through the ranks with his hometown club, and has racked up nearly 250 appearances for the Dons.

The midfielder has not only bagged 11 goals during his time with Aberdeen, but has also been club captain since the summer of 2015.

However, Jack is out of contract this summer, and with no deal looking like being agreed, he could leave Pittodrie on a free transfer at the end of the season.

One club being strongly linked with a move to sign Jack is Rangers, after manager Pedro Caixinha revealed his admiration for the player when speaking to The Express earlier this week.

Now, HITC Sport understand that Jack will reject an offer from Barnsley in order to pen a deal with Rangers when his contract expires, marking a major signing for the Gers as they lure a key player away from a rival club.

Tonight, Rangers host Aberdeen at Ibrox in a game that the injured Jack will miss out on, and former Dons ace Derek Whyte has offered a message to Jack whilst speaking to The Scottish Sun – don’t move to Rangers.

Whyte believes that Jack would be making a major step back by joining Rangers, and whilst he feels that Rangers desperately need somebody of Jack’s quality in midfield, he thinks Jack should instead pursue a move to England – but he currently looks set to ignore that advice.

“No, he shouldn’t move to Rangers,” said Whyte. “Why would you leave Aberdeen, a club that’s been successful over the last couple of years, to go with Rangers? Arguably Rangers are a bigger club, but why would you want to go to Rangers when you’re playing in a better team at the moment? If he’s wanting to improve himself he’s got to go to England, not Scotland. If you’re going to improve yourself, that’s not going to happen at Rangers. I think it would be a step back. He’s an Aberdeen boy as well.”

“It has happened a couple of times with David Robertson and a few other players have done that kind of swap. But I think he’s better to improve himself in England. I like him, he’s a good player. He could probably score more goals for a midfielder for me, but he’s a very good player. Maybe not Premier League, I don’t think he’s good enough for that. But certainly a good Championship club.”

“I watched Rangers’ game last week against Hearts and they were overrun, against Celtic they were overrun, they lack major experience in the middle of the park. I know Ryan Jack is only 25 but he’s been Aberdeen captain for a couple of years. He would benefit them but I think Rangers are sadly lacking in midfield players I really do,” he added.
