Derek Johnstone has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that new Rangers manager Steven Gerrard could attract his former Liverpool teammate Fernando Torres to Ibrox.

Torres is leaving Atletico Madrid this summer and will become a free agent, and Rangers fans want the former Liverpool and Chelsea striker to make the move to the Ibrox club, as reported on HITC Sport.

The 34-year-old striker played with former England international midfielder Gerrard at Liverpool, and Rangers legend Johnstone has suggested that the new Ibrox manager could attract the Spaniard to the Gers.

Blockbuster signing

Torres is past his prime and his best years were at Liverpool, but the Spaniard would still be a blockbuster signing for Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The 34-year-old would be able to score quite a few goals in the Scottish Premiership, and his arrival at Ibrox would also make headline news all around the world.

A Champions League and Europa League winner with Chelsea and a World Cup and European Championship winner with Spain, Torres would bring with him a winning mentality to the Rangers team.
