Gary Neville has said on Sky Sports Premier League (10:42pm, August 23, 2021) that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli must have been inspired by Jack Grealish’s transfer from Aston Villa to Manchester City.

The former Manchester United star has been impressed by Alli’s performances for Tottenham in their opening two Premier League games of the season so far.

Neville believes that Grealish joining Premier League champions City from Villa must have played a role in the Tottenham midfielder stepping up his game.

The Sky Sports pundit also believes that England’s performances at the Euro 2020 finals this summer will have motivated the 25-year-old.

Neville said about Alli on Sky Sports Premier League (10:42pm, August 23, 2021): “I talked about Dele Alli last week.

“He must have watched the Euros in the summer, he must have watched Jack Grealish going to Manchester City for £100 million and thought, ‘Where’s my career going? This is a chance that I have got to get back on track’.

“He has got to get back on track. He has had a good start to the season.”

Getting back to his best

Alli has not been at his best for around two years now, and the midfielder has also lost his place in the England squad.

However, there are signs that things are getting better for the Tottenham midfielder.

The 25-year-old struggled for playing time under Jose Mourinho last season, but he appears to have already made an impression on new head coach Nuno.

Alli has scored one goal in two Premier League matches this campaign.

The Tottenham midfielder is still not at his best yet, but the signs so far indicate that he could rediscover the form that made him look so special not so long ago.
