Tottenham Hotspur squeezed one more deal through before last night’s transfer deadline.
It was a pretty solid deadline day for Spurs, who added one more player to the ranks after signing right-back Emerson Royal from Barcelona.
But another defender also left the club – and it happened at the last minute.
Well, in the last five minutes.
Cameron Carter-Vickers has been rendered surplus to requirements at Tottenham under Nuno Espirito Santo and the club confirmed that they had loaned him to Celtic.
The window in Scotland closed at midnight, one hour later than England, but the Lilywhites announced the transfer at 11.55 pm.
Carter-Vickers, a USA international, has now left the Lilywhites on loan on seven occasions since 2017.
And some fans of the North London club would’ve preferred a permanent departure. Here’s what they’re saying on Twitter:
Rusty
This is a bit of a gamble for Celtic, who have the option to sign him permanently next summer.
That’s because Carter-Vickers picked an injury in a Europa Conference League qualifier last month and Nuno called it an ‘ugly injury‘.
The 23-year-old hasn’t played since and although the player clearly passed a medical, signing somebody who’s only recently returned to fitness is a bit of a risk, it has to be said.
In any case, Carter-Vickers might be a touch rusty early doors under Ange Postecoglou but over the course of the season, there is obviously the expectation that he can be an asset for the Scottish Premiership giants.
